The product Roomskills Voicecontrol

Hello and nice to see you.

You probably have just tried our Alexa skills 'Roomskills Voicecontrol' or 'Roomskills Smarthome devices' or found us on the Internet. Here is the right place to find out, how to control the Roomskills devices via Alexa voice commands or include them into Alexa routines. In Roomskills you can setup smart home devices or music players from Philips Hue, AVM Fritzbox, Logitech Mediaserver (Squeezebox), Sonos or devices from the smarthome system ioBroker.

Roomskills Voicecontrol provides Alexa voice control functionality for Roomskills. They can be controled using our skill 'Roomskills Voicecontrol' or they appear within Alexa as native Alexa Smarthome devices if you use our skill 'Roomskills Smarthome devices' and then they can be used within the Alexa App and in Alexa routines.

Roomskills Voicecontrol is only one way to control the devices. Roomskills is about controling the devices in many ways like NFC Tags (for example our Roomskills Tags), QR Codes, the myStrom buttons or third party apps (Appcontrol).

Have fun setting it up.

  • Voicecontrol Overview

  • The 3 steps to setup voice control

The following steps set up voice control for Roomskills

    • Setup devices in Roomskills using Roomskills Setup
    • Activate the Alexa skills Roomskills Voicecontrol and/or Roomskills Smarthome Devices
    • Use the voice commands in Alexa
  • Setup of Voicecontrol

  • Setup of devices and functions

In order to use Alexa voice commands to control the devices you have to set them up in Roomskills first. Under the description of Roomskills Setup you find the decription how to set up the devices in Roomskills (to the description of Roomskills Setup ...).

After the devices and functions have been setup and can be controled via the web menu, we can start setting up the voice control.

  • Activate the right package

Depending on the useage scenario you might need a different package. To use the skill Roomskills Voicecontrol you need the package 'Basic'. But if you want to voice control 'Musiccontrol LMS' players you need the package 'Advanced' and to voice control ioBroker devices the package 'Pro' is needed.

If you want to control the devices as native Alexa devices and for example control them in Alexa routines the required package depends on the amount of devices you want to control::

    • Package Free: 2 devices
    • Package Basic: 5 devices
    • Package Advanced: 8 devices
    • Package Pro: 200 devices

If you want to activate another package or switch your package (the remaining time will be adjusted accordingly) you can do this in the area account on Roomskills at any time.

  • The trick with alternative names

Sometimes we find it difficult to remember the exact names we gave our devices when giving the voice commands. To make it easier to remember the names, you can define different alternative names for each device on the configuration page of the device. Just go to the devices area using the left side menu. Then select the room and then click on the 'pencil' button next to the device for which you want to define alternative names.

  • The Alexa skill 'Roomskills Voicecontrol'

Roomskills Voicecontrol is the skill to control all functions of the Roomskills devices. You find a full overview of the possible voice commands below. First we have to find the skill in the Alexa App by using the search function under 'Skills and Games'. By clicking on 'Activate to use' we activate the skill.

Next you have to link the skill to your Roomskills service. This is done entering the Amazon account data. It is important to use the Amazon Account with the same email address as used in Roomskills.

After the account linking process is done, you can start using the voice commands described in the next section to control your devices.

    Have fun.

  • The Alexa skill 'Roomskills Smarthome Devices'

    Roomskills Smarthome Devices

To activate the skill search in the Alexa app for the skill "Roomskills Smarthome Devices" and activate it.

In addition you have to setup which devices are available in the Alexa app. This is done in the menu area 'Alexa' and the number of possible devices depends on your package:

    • Package Basic: 5 devices
    • Package Advanced: 8 devices
