In order to use Roomskills you need an active Roomskills user. With the installation and connection of any of our Alexa skills Roomskills Voicecontrol or Musiccontrol a user is automatically set up in Roomskills. If you have not activated a Roomskills skill there are 2 ways to register with the Roomskills service. You can use our registration process by using a valid email address or you can login using the Amazon Login service using your Amazon account to login into Roomskills.

    • The easiest way to register and log into Roomskills is by using the 'Amazon Login' button on the login page (to the login page).
    • An alternative way to register and log into Roomsskills is by registering your email address and define a password to login. First you use our registration page (to the registration form). After the registration you have to confirm your given email address by clicking on a link send to you from us by email. After the link has been clicked you can log into Roomskills using the email address and password defined in the registration process.
  • Activate the Roomskills service 'AVM Fritzbox Smarthome'
    • First go to 'Services' in the menu on the left and then select the service type 'AVM Fritzbox Smarthome' in the drop down menu and click on the '+' button next to the drop down menu.
    • Next give the service a name like 'My Fritzbox at home'
    • Next you have to enter a user which has been created on your Fritzbox, which has the right to control your smarthome devices. We suggest to use or create a new user with the only rights to control the smart home devices on the Fritzbox. The user is created on the Fritzbox in the menu under "System > Fritz!Box-User".
    • Then you have to enter the https adress under which the Fritz!box can be reached from the Internet. For this The HTTPS access on the Fritzbox has to be activated. This is done in the menu "Internet > Sharing under Fritzbox-Services" the option "Activate Internet access to the FRITZ!Box via HTTPS" activates the access.
In addition it makes sense to activate the secure https protocol by enabling a signed https-certificate. This can be activated under "Internet > MyFritz-Account" in the option "Certificate from letsencrypt.org".
    • By clicking on "test the service..." you can confirm, that the connection works. If not you should check all the settings above and try again.
    • After this is done you can setup your devices in Roomskills.
  • Setup of the devices

Now we can setup the devices in Roomskills. All devices are setup under the menu "Devices"

    • First select the room in which the device should be in the drop-down menu on top and click on the "+" button next to the drop-down menu.
    • In the upcoming configuration window give the device a name, select the type. Under service you should find the service you just created.
    • After you have selected the service you should see "..." appearing and after a few seconds a list of the devices of your FRITZ!DECT system shoud appear.
    • Then you select the right entry from the list and the by clicking on OK the device is created.
    • This needs to be repeated for every device that should be controled by Roomskills.
    • Sometimes we find it difficult to remember the exact names we gave our devices when giving the voice commands. To make it easier to remember the names, you can define different alternative names for each device on the configuration page of the device. Just go to the devices area using the left side menu. Then select the room and then click on the 'pencil' button next to the device for which you want to define alternative names.

That's it. We are done setting up the system and we can test it using the 'Control' area by clicking on 'Control' in the menu on the left.

If everything works we can continue by activating the Alexa skill as decribed in the next section.

  • Different possibilities with the different packages "Free", "Basic", "Advanced" or "Pro" - which package to choose?

Depending on the use cases different packages are required.

    • A complete control of the devices via Alexa using our Alexa skill Roomskills Voicecontrol requires the package "Basic".
    • If you only want to use NFC tags like our Roomskills Tags or QR codes to control the devices using the tags or codes in combination with your Smartphone or if you just want to turn the devices on or off via Alexa voice commands you can do this with our package "Free".
    • To control the devices with a physical button or a fixed URL you should at least activate the package "Basic".

  • Control functions using Roomskills Tags

  • Overview

Roomskills Tags are small and stylish NFC tags to control functions on the smartphone or in the smart home. The function is activated by bringing the smartphone near the tag. With the tags you can for example activate light scenes, turn lights on and off or you can start music favorites on Sonos or Logitech Media server players.

With the tags you can also activate functions on the smartphone itself like starting Spotify playlists.

Here a short manual how to store functions on the Roomskills Tags and how use your smartphone to activate the stored function.

You find the Roomskills Tags and the Tagboard in our Shop. Please have a look.

  • Setup on iPhone

The full background NFC Functionality is available on the models Xs, Xs Max, Xr, 11, 11 Pro and newer. The iPhone models iPhone 7 / 7 Plus / 8 / 8 Plus and X do not support 'NFC backfground reading' and need to use the 'NFC Reader' app to open and use a tag. We have good experiences with the App 'NFC for iPhone' (to the App Store). Older iPhone models do not support the use of NFC by apps.

With the following steps you setup your Roomskills Tag on an iPhone:

    1. The app 'NFC for iPhone' can be used very well on an iPhone to programm an NFC tag and therefore we download the app onto our iPhone.
    2. Then we open the app which we want to store on the iPhone. This can be Spotify for example. In the Spotify App we open the playlist we want to start and tap on 'Share' and 'copy'. Now the link to the playlist is in the clipboard on the iPhone. If you want to activate a function on Roomskills, lets say start a music favorite we go in Roomskills to the music favorite and open the details page of the favorite. On the details page we activate the 'Direct URL (QR/NFC Connect)' function by clicking on 'Activate'. Then we copy the link by clicking on the button open_in_browser next to the URL and now the link is stored in the clipboard of the iPhone.
    3. Now we open the app ‚NFC for iPhone‘ and select the function 'Write'
    4. Then we select 'Weblink‘ as data set.
    5. Then we tap on the field of the URL and select 'Paste' to copy the stored content of the clipbard to the text field. Then we tap on ‚Save‘ and then on 'Write' to start the writing procedure.
    6. Now we move the upper part of the iPhone to the Roomskills Tag to write the data onto the tag. The we get the success message, that writing was successful.
    7. That was it – best we move our iPhone once to the tag to see if everything worked..

One additional remark: To use the Roomskills functions on other phones, this phone has to at least once have logged into Roomskills with the account of the function or open one specific URL once to he authorized to open the functions. You find more information in the area Connect on the Roomskills Website.

  • Control functions using a fixed https URL (App-Connect)

  • Overview

There are only 2 steps necessary to control a function via a fixed URL.

    • Activate the URL for the function that should be executed by calling a fixed URL
    • Use the URL
  • Activate the access (direct URL access)

In order to control a function by calling a URL you have to activate the URL control for the function or the music favorite that should be controled. This is done on the details page of the function or the favorite. You get to the details page by clicking on the icon next to the function or favorite (the icon shows a pencil or a touch symbol).

To activate the function you click on the lower area of the page on the button "Activate" next to the text "Direct URL access ...".

  • Use the direct access URL

After activating the function a unique link is created which can be used to execute the function or start the music favorite. You can copy the URL into the clipboard by clicking on the button next to the link. In addition you find an additional button (pages). By clicking on this button a QR code specific for this function or favorite is created, which can be printed and put to a place where it can be used to open the URL on a smartphone using the smartphone camera.

The created URL can be used to call the function anywhere where a URL can be called. For example on Smartwatch apps, or NFC tags like our stylish Roomskills Tags To the Roomskills Tags.
